Leo Hyunho KIM - Baritone
The South Korean baritone Leo Hyunho KIM received his training in his home country and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Prof. KS Krassimira Stoyanova. In addition, he has participated in numerous masterclasses with KS Thomas Hampson, KS Leo Nucci, KS Krassimira Stoyanova, and Anton Scharinger.
Since the 2023/2024 season, he has been a member of the soloist ensemble at Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, where he performs the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, Enrico in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, and Danilo in Lehár’s The Merry Widow. In the 2024/2025 season, he will appear as Hans Scholl in Weiße Rose by U. Zimmermann, Ford in Falstaff by G. Verdi, and Morales in Carmen.
His repertoire also includes roles such as Escamillo (Carmen), Alfio (Cavalleria Rusticana), Eugene Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Music Teacher (Ariadne auf Naxos), Schaunard (La Bohème), Silvio (I Pagliacci), Publio (La Clemenza di Tito), Marco (Gianni Schicchi), and Morales (Carmen).
He has collaborated with renowned directors such as Nina Kupczyk, Magdalena Fuchsberger, Ursula Horner, Beverly Blankenship, and Michael Sturminger and has performed under the musical direction of Enrico Calesso, Gábor Hontvári, Luciano di Martino, Dian Tchovanov, Vladimir Kradjiev, Viliana Valtcheva, Christoph Maier, and Ulrich Cornelius Maier.
In 2014, he won 3rd Prize at the International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. In the summer of 2018, he was a scholarship recipient of the Résidence Mozart - Académie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in France. At the International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition in 2019 in Vienna, he was awarded both First Prize and the WCN Special Prize. In 2019, he was a finalist at the DIOA (Daegu International Opera Awards) and the L'Assoluta Virginia Zeani Royal Voice Competition. In 2021, he was a finalist at the International Montserrat Caballé Singing Competition in Barcelona and at the International Opera Pinza Singing Competition in Pienza, Italy. In 2022, he was a scholarship recipient at the International Opera Workshop Weblingen.
